Let's Talk About Words

My daughter is studying in London with her college, but she is visiting some of the places that her father and I saw 23 years ago when we vacationed there.  While living, we can encounter the same events as other people have; we can travel to s imilar locations, and we can experience the same feelings and emotions as others.  If we choose to see each of us as separate, we miss out on that common experience of living here on earth .      G.K. Chesterton said, " Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly; devils fall because of their gravity." I am not sure that G.K. meant angels and devils in the literal heaven and hell sense. I interpret it to mean that here on earth , we can live the life of an angel if we are not too serious and appreciate the good as well as the bad that we encounter. These angels are the people that take life , as well as themselves "lightly". There have been people in my life that could be called an angel by that definition. Some of these people may have only passed through my life, whereas others are in my life every day. I also believe that there are angels in heaven that help and guide us in this world . Whether or not you believe that as well, if you look around at your life, you will see there are angels all around us. We shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds." -Anton Chekov      I am not sure what Anton what referencing with this passage, but to me it sounds as if he is describing once we die with the angels and the peace . I do hope that once my life here on earth is done that I do see the sky sparkling like diamonds, hear angels and find peace, however I would like all of that while I am alive as well. One of my favorite songs at church has always been "Let There Be Peace On Earth". I would sing along loud and strong somehow hoping that just wishing for peace  could make it happen. Although I would want peace in all of the world, I have been a little selfish in my life, wishing for that peace for myself. Even during an argumentative marriage, raising children and living in the busy northwest suburbs of Chicago,  I have continually searched for peace for myself in my outward life, yet everything...

Whether I am having trouble and sorrow in my life or everything is going great, I sometimes get so focused on my own perception of life that I let this fact slip from my thoughts.      Ralph Waldo Emerson was quoted as saying, "Earth laughs in flowers." My sister, Amy, and I went hiking yesterday at Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington Hills. As we walked, I took picture after picture of all of the beauty that I saw. I have lived in this area for 12 years and never even knew that this place was nearby. I am grateful that others before me had the wisdom to preserve these parts of our planet for us and for future generations to enjoy. People blame others for the destructive of our planet. They accuse construction companies for all of the new buildings and the clearing away of the trees or condemn big businesses for the destruction of our ozone layer with pollution. It is easy to cast blame on others, but what is our role in taking care of our planet Earth?
