Let's Talk About Words

I read once that the beating of a butterfly's wings in the Amazon can influence the formation of a tornado in Texas.  I don't understand how, yet I believe it. I think that all of life is interconnected; everything that we do and say effects other's lives. Science can explain mysteries, but for me it is just enough to know that it can. We also have access to numerous sporting events and concerts . Obviously, they all cost money to park and for admission, yet there are days that are free at some of the places. We save up money to go out to dinner or to a movie, but what about for a museum ? We should understand the world we live in.      G.K. Chesterton said, " Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly; devils fall because of their gravity." I am not sure that G.K. meant angels and devils in the literal heaven and hell sense. I interpret it to mean that here on earth , we can live the life of an angel if we are not too serious and appreciate the good as well as the bad that we encounter. These angels are the people that take life , as well as themselves "lightly". There have been people in my life that could be called an angel by that definition. Some of these people may have only passed through my life, whereas others are in my life every day. I also believe that there are angels in heaven that help and guide us in this world . Whether or not you believe that as well, if you look around at your life, you will see there are angels all around us. We are all connected to one another.  I think that is an important concept for people to understand, but I already wrote about that idea in the post called  I am only a small part of the universe . If I were to win the lottery, I would want to see the world since I really enjoy traveling . There are places that I have been, and places that I want to see. Except for reasons of convenience, there are few places I would like to go to again, even though some of the spots I adored. I am not like people who want to vacation in the same city time and time again. There are so many different sights , countries and islands  that I want to see so I would never choose a place I have already been to. I want to see all of the world and "to seek other souls " as the quote states. I enjoy seeing how different people live and meeting others. Whether I am having trouble and sorrow in my life or everything is going great, I sometimes get so focused on my own perception of life that I let this fact slip from my thoughts.      Luigi Pirandello said, " Nature uses human imagination to lift her work of creation to even higher levels", but I believe that our imagination  can lift the beauty of nature to higher levels as well. When I went to an art show this summer, I was surprised by the the large number of artists whose work was photographs . At least at this event, there were very few paintings, which saddened me. They were beautifully taken pictures, and I do feel that photography is an art and a skill, however the world would be a less creative one if people are not using a canvas and brush to create. I love to paint with acrylic paint, and have painted less than 10 paintings in my life. It takes me quite a long time to finish one, however when I am in the mood to paint, I love it. I usually start with an idea or picture but then use my imagination to recreate it from my thoughts. I paint as another way to express myself creatively. It is a similar process when...

    "Nothing we use or hear or touch can be expressed in words that equal what we are given by the senses ," as stated by Hannah Arendt. She died in 1975 after writing and publishing many books. I find it interesting that an author would say that nothing we use, hear or touch can be described adequately in words. Isn't that the goal as a writer, to make the reader feel and experience a situation as if they were there? I know that as I am writing my first novel, I struggle to find the words to describe what I want to put down on paper, but I assumed that was one of the conditions of being a new writer. I think this is perfect advice for myself though; to look , taste , touch , smell and listen to the world all around me. I am often hurrying here, hurrying there, on my phone, thinking of all that I need to do that I don't often "stop to smell the roses" so to speak. I am often shocked and disheartened by much of what I hear and see, but I am an optimist by nature. I believe in the best from others; I believe that the world is a great place to live; I believe in mankind .
