Pain can teach us

Image
Aristotle said, "The aim of the wise is not to secure pleasure, but to avoid pain ." When I am confronted with situations or people that cause me pain , I try over and over to see if I can stop the it. When the same response continues to happen then I have a decision to make. Do I continue on this path that is leading me to pain or do I choose differently? As much as I want the one direction to produce a different outcome, it won't. Repeated attempts create the same results. I am not sure why that is a hard lesson to learn because pain can teach us. We gain strength from adversity

Image
Soren Kierkegaard was quoted as saying, " Adversity draws men together and produces beauty an harmony in life's relationships, just as the cold of winter produces ice-flowers on the windowpanes, which vanish with the warmth." Many of the quotes in The Daily Book of Positive Quotations revolve around forgiveness, mistakes and problems. Today's is no different; problems help people to learn and grow in life. I have had a challenging last year, yet I have had the most success in writing and pursuing my dreams. Difficulties definitely made me follow my heart. We gain strength  from adversity . Be tolerant

Image
"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."                                                     -George Washington  Carver    I have written in my blog about youth and my children as well as  about having compassion. On the nineteenth, I will communicate my thoughts on sympathy. From today's quote I want to focus on tolerance which is, in my words, the willingness to put up with someone or some situation. I do believe that being tolerant is a willingness or a choice . I am not saying that you allow others to abuse you or even be rude; it is just accepting other people's differences. We all come to earth with our own lessons and ou...

Learn from other people's experiences

Image
"It doesn't matter how many say it cannot be done or how many people have tried it before; it's important to realize that whatever you're doing, it's your first attempt at it."                                                                                -Wally Amos         I love this quote from Wall Amos for many reasons. First off, I think that no matter what you are doing, you do need to remember that it is your first time. The results will be different for each person that tries something, you included. The other part of this quote that resonates with me is the idea that even if people say that it cannot be done, a person that wants something bad enough should never give up. The picture with my quote is from a visit to Memphis where I lear...

Use your ability to adapt to learn and grow

Image
"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change ," as said by Charles Darwin. As I have discussed in previous posts, life changes; nothing stays the same. I started writing a book years ago based on the idea of tolerance , which is the ability of an organism to thrive and grow under adverse conditions. I have prayed, meditated and contemplated this concept for many years, trying to make sure that whatever life throws my way that I can learn and grow from it. I believe that I have done well, but I want to continue to use my ability to adapt to learn and grow. Read my words and see my quotes at http://susanmarieschulhof.blogspot.com
