Laugh at the irony of life

Mark Van Doren was quoted as saying, "Wit is the only wall between us and the dark." Last year, I attended a play at my daughter's high school called "Wit", and there was a movie in 2001 of the same play. It was about a professor who had to reassess her life after being diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. The reason I believe that it was called Wit was due to her ability to look at the irony of life. How often do we put off doing or saying things until the point comes that it no longer matters? How often can we look at people and circumstances of our life and find some small way to see the humor in it? Losing your hair while battling cancer means never having a bad hair day. Not being able to have children means that you are free to travel and live your life for yourself. Sometimes the only way to get through the dark and troubling times is to laugh at the irony of life.
