History teaches us about ourselves
"We can chart our future clearly and wisely only when we know the path which has led to the present."
-Adlai E. Stevenson
It is important as individuals as well as a country to examine and study one's history and path. I have never been fond of any history or political science classes, however I feel as a nation that we must examine the choices we made and the consequences of those decisions. We can learn about ourselves if we ponder our own feelings regarding the decisions of this country that were made on our behalf. As individuals, we also need to look at the path that we took to get where we are in life, regardless of whether we are happy with where we are or not. Often it takes adversity to make one look at their life and choices. If you want to find yourself, you must understand how you got lost or as Plato was attributed with saying, "An unexamined life is not worth living." Our own history, as well as our countries history, teaches us about ourselves and about our beliefs.
